Makedonikos White

Tradition: Many ancient Greek cities in Makedonia, like Pella, Sindos and Pydna, were famous for their excellent wines. Archaeological findings like the Makedonian crater (340 B.C.), which inspired the design of the Makedonikos wine bottle, bear witness to a long wine-growing tradition in this area.
Location: The vineyards are located in the hilly countryside of Northern and Central Makedonia.
Soil: Bright sandy clay, rich in minerals.
Sub-soil: Calcareous.
Climate: Continental balanced with sufficient humidity in Northern Makedonia. In Central Makedonia, the climate is moderate, with adequate humidity for the perfect maturation of the grapes; long summer days, light rainfall and cool nights.
Classification: Makedonikos regional wine (vin de pays).
Varietal composition: The Greek indigenous Roditis and Zoumiatis.
Harvest: Middle of September until middle of October.
Vinification techniques: Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, at carefully controlled low temperature.
Character: A crystal clear white wine with fresh green hues. Characteristic white flower and lavender aromas mingle with fruity notes and toasted bread. A wine with balanced acidity, a pleasant taste and a refreshing aftertaste.
Serving suggestions: Delicious with fruits and a favourite with fried cod in garlic sauce, fried squid and all Greek appetisers.
Serving temperature: Best served at 10-12 oC.

    Location: The hilly countryside in central Makedonia.
    Soil: Bright sandy and clayey, rich in minerals.
    Sub-soil: Calcareous.
    Climate: Continental, with sufficient humidity.
    Varietal composition: The noble Greek indigenous grape variety Athiri.
    Viticultural techniques: An integrated farming system is applied (2,800 plants/ha).
    Harvest: Beginning until end of September.
    Vinification techniques: The vinification is made in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with cooling jackets, where the alcoholic fermentation takes place at a low and constant temperature to preserve the aromas of the grape.
    Classification: Makedonikos regional wine (vin de pays).
    Character: Clear yellow with hints of green; a youthful wine, flowery, pleasantly aromatic with a crisp finish.
    Serving suggestions: A wine recommended with grilled fish, seafood, chargrilled vegetables, light cheeses and fruits.
    Serving temperature: Best served at 10 – 12 oC.

    History: This wine honours the memory of Alexander the Great, king of Makedonia and world-famous historical figure. Many ancient Greek cities in Makedonia, like Pella (capital of the Makedonian dynasty), Sindos and Pydna, were famous for their excellent wines.
    Location: The hilly countryside in central Makedonia.
    Soil: Bright sandy and clayey, rich in minerals.
    Sub-soil: Calcareous.
    Climate: Continental, with sufficient humidity.
    Varietal composition: 35% Sauvignon Blanc, 65% Roditis.
    Harvest: For the Sauvignon Blanc, harvest stretches from August 10th-31st and for the Roditis from September 15th-October 10th.
    Vinification techniques: For the vinification of both grape varieties, extraction is conducted at low temperature, resulting in a wine with intense aromas and full body.
    Classification: Makedonikos Regional Wine.
    Character: Vivid yellow-gold in colour, pleasantly aromatic with an accent of tropical fruit flavours. A finely structured wine, well-balanced, clean and crisp on the palate, lingering nicely on the finish.
    Serving suggestions: A delicious wine, especially with hors d'oeuvres, fruit de mer, poultry dishes, light cheeses and fruits. An excellent accompaniment to grilled fish, prawns in tomato sauce with hot pepper and chicken in oregano sauce with rice.
    Serving temperature: Best served at 10-12 oC.

    Location: The slopes of Mount Athos , a unique place of great natural beauty; a monastic community dedicated to the perpetual glorification of the Mother of God.
    Grape varieties: From the homegrown varieties Assyrtiko, Athiri and Roditis.
    Harvest: End of August for the Assyrtiko - middle of September for the Athiri.
    Vinification: Separate vinification for each grape variety. Fermentation at low temperature (18 oC). Natural clarification.
    Classification: Agioritikos regional wine (Vin de Pays).
    Character: A crystal clear wine, yellow gold with an attractive green hue, bursting with peach and green apple. A harmoniously vivacious palate.
    Serving suggestions: Grilled or fried fish, white meats, mild yellow cheeses, fruits.
    Serving temperature: Best enjoyed at 10-12 oC

    Tsantalis Blanc

    Location: The peninsula of Halkidiki in Makedonia, Northern Greece . The vineyards lie on small hills, close to the sea.
    Soil: Mainly sandy clay.Sub-soil: Deep calcareous.
    Climate : Typical Mediterranean (long hot summers, mild winters) with a high sunshine index during the growing and maturation season.
    Varietal composition: 50% Roditis, the traditional Greek grape variety, which finds the perfect microclimate in Halkidiki, and 50% Zoumiatis, which adds the fruity aromas.
    Harvest : End of September. Manual harvesting. Viticultural techniques: An integrated farming system is applied.
    Vinification techniques : The vinification is conducted in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with cooling jackets, where the alcoholic fermentation takes place at a low and constant temperature to preserve the grape aromas.
    Classification : Table wine Character : This delightful dry white wine is fruity on the palate, reminiscent of crisp green apples, and finishing with a refreshing aftertaste. Serving suggestions: An everyday table wine that easily accompanies light meals, salads and cheese-based recipes.
    Serving temperature : Best served at 12-13 oC.


    LEMNOS: Tsantali Moscato of Lemnos

    Location: Long flat plains and hills up to 450m above sea level.
    Soil: Volcanic earth.
    Sub-soil: Rich in minerals.
    Climate: Mild and sunny. Proximity to the sea provides the necessary humidity.
    Varietal composition: 100% Moscato of Alexandria.
    Harvest: End of August till beginning of September.
    Vinification techniques: Fermentation takes place at low temperature after an extraction phase on the skins, with the addition of wine alcohol to the fermented must to stop the fermentation process. Natural clarification.
    Classification: Moscato of Lemnos O.P.E.
    Character: A luminous golden-yellow wine, with a complex aroma, imbued with the impressive varietal character of the Moscato grape. Hints of roses and orange blossom lead to a generous, full, round palate, with an elegant and very pleasant sweetness, mounting to a long honeyed finish.
    Serving suggestions: On crushed ice as an aperitif or straight as an after-dinner drink. It is the perfect escort to fruit salads, strawberry tarts, vanilla ice cream, or even goats cheese.
    Serving temperature: Best served at 8 - 10 oC.

    Varietal composition: 100% Moscatos

    Serving suggestions: Can be enjoyed either chilled as an aperitif, or as an accompaniment to fresh fruit salads, melon and prosciuto dishes and traditional Greek deserts, or as an after dinner dessert drink.
