The Photoenhancements.com team traveled to Greece to visit
ancient Olympia and the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens and gather research for this website.
The three-week-long trip was packed with excursions to various Olympic sites and trips
to the library. We were escorted by a knowledgeable team, who turned out to
be excellent company as well. We thank the team at AvantiLogic.com for the
unforgettable experience, their hospitality, and the occasional ouzo.
During the course of our trip, we quickly realized that this work would not
be "another website-building project." We were up against one of the most
significant cultures of ancient history. Prior to our trip, we researched
the web and studied every book on the subject we could get hold of. No matter!
Once we got face to face with the sites and the sculptures in the museum,
we were astonished. The exhibits were breathtaking.
The museum at Olympia features myriads of artifacts made out of gold,
copper, and marble. This is a place where tradition meets elegance and
legacy meets grace. A highlight of the exibit is "Hermes" of Praxitelis
(see photo above). This statue is a magnificent piece of art, one of the
most important sculptures of the period. "Hermes," a product of ancient
Greek culture, is now part of our global cultural heritage. Similarly,
the Olympic games originated and florished in Greece, yet presently their
legacy extends to the international community.
